Pemex looking to monetize assets
Pemex busca monetizar activos

Synopsis |
Pemex, the state-owned oil company based in Mexico City, is looking to monetize some of its assets to improve its capital structure, reported CNN Expansión on 30 April, citing deputy director of treasury, Rodolfo Campos. The decision was prompted by the fall in oil prices worldwide and corresponding budget cuts. The best solution given the company's need for liquidity, would be to monetize assets, though the idea is still being analyzed, the report stated citing Campos. Campos explained in the report that a previous constitutional decree led Pemex to accumulate many assets, mainly in distribution, which are not core to the company's activities. The structure of Master Limited Partnerships (MLP) is not ruled out. With an MLP, a company sells an asset to a third party and then partners to manage that asset. Though Pemex has had to cut costs MXN 62bn, it will still participate in the first round public tender led by the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) (see related content).
